For eight years, my job required me to travel 25-30% of the time, unusually to far-flung destinations. During that time, I had a baby, followed by a second one, but I loved the travel and wasn’t prepared to give it up. It was important to my career success and gave me some needed down-time. But my husband also worked a demanding job and we had to find a way to keep family life stable while I was away.

This Jam Session will share real-world tips on how to make your work travel a “non-event” at home, deal with the negative judgement that can come from others, and turn your travel into a fun opportunity to teach your kids about your work and the world. I dealt with snow-day school cancellations from Pakistan, a disastrous parent-teacher conference from Denmark and made it off a 12-hour flight to go straight into trick-or-treating. You CAN make work travel work with a family, and I’ll share how I did it.
